is the angry hedonist: former designer who gave it all up to become a poor and starving but happy artist instead. She illustrates awkward women in uneasy dilemmas with that loving touch of macabre. She enjoys telling the world her life’s little stories in her illustrations...

RIDDING OF BURDENS ©2010, nataliette. digital painting.
it is my firm belief that we should accept all of life’s inevitable (and countless) tragedies because only after acceptance can we go on living. mourning is a great coping mechanism, but not an excuse to delay life’s other wonderful treasures. moving on!
being sadface for 7 days or 7 months is ultimately up to yourself… and i wonder which sounds more exciting, hmhm.

CURLS, BE GONE! ©2010, nataliette. digital drawing.
curls, be gone!
while ridding herself of unruly hair woes, she wields her favourite coal iron inherited from her grandmother’s grandmother.
in the meanwhile she also loves lampshade skirts and garish flower ornamentals inspired by alexander mcqueen’s fall 2008 collection(may he rest in peace).
here are the works i put up at my mini show Love is a Dog from Hell at 15minutes cafe in lasalle college of the arts.

yeah i recycled some… so what. its ART!!!
(also, i’ve been using the “it’s ART!” statement to defend the pathetic patches of black polish leftover on my nails… it renders most complainers dumbfounded cos they believe me…teehee!)

the acidtripped version of MY POOR SISTER part 2.. (see larger)
not very original i know. but its fun experimenting with textures and masks and now its got golden butterflies and psychedelic hair. weeeee!

ABSTINENCE / MY POOR SISTER PART II ©2009, nataliette. digital drawing.
this piece is dedicated to my younger sister (bless her if she sees this) who is 5months pregnant and everyone just only recently found out about it, including herself. the symbolism is pretty obvious but for the oblivious i’ll try to explain…
the kite, whips about, thrown back and forth at the wind’s every whim and fancy.
its unabashed performance of liberation a shadow of her former self.
upon finding out she is carrying new life inside of her, she has to she deny herself of her favourite vices and shoulder the burden of expectancy.
she must cease her slaphappy ways now.
my poor sister.
i went pretty insane when i first found out, but now im rather ok with the fact that im going to be an aunty (despite this illustration’s portrayal… the blame is on the fact that i just cannot draw anything happy/sweet/gushy/lovely ever!). i wish mother and child all the best! ♥♥
people have been asking me what inspires me. i keep saying i simply draw things that i muse about/experience while going through the daily motions. this is one good example! inspired by my sister’s pregnancy. maybe in my other artworks this is not so obvious but they all are really depictions of my daily life experiences. and by that i meant more of short passing occurances than long periods of stages in life.

THE SONGBIRD ©2009, nataliette. digital drawing.
sorry for the art respite… i have been busy bumming around, going for interviews, and working on odd jobs here and there to feed myself!
this piece is for everyone out there who cant sing (like myself)… as well as an indication to the pop artistes out there who use more studio magic than vocal prowess to sell albums… YOU’RE BIG FAT FRAUDS! although i have to admit… some of these ‘frauds’ do end up making incredibly enjoyable music (yay britney). …so who really cares?

VESTURE // by me.
is she calling someone?
is someone calling her?
swatting a fly?
is someone touching her face?
is it too bright outside?
:D?
i just wanted to do a quick drawing but now its 3am ;-;
oh well i hope The Boy™ will be happy cos he’s been bugging me to draw something sweet/cute/lovely/pleasant/non-gory for quite awhile now. if you’re reading this, I WUB YOO BUNSYYY!!! *burp* *fart* :D
ps. i am featured this week on farm feed! hooray.

THE FUTILE WOMB // by me.
periods. SIGH! sometimes it just makes me wana reach inside my bellybutton and steal the womb inside me.
uh, and ignore my current obsession with pubic hair.

BRING ME BACK TO LIFE by me.
my mother used to say this to me: girl, when you fall down, be sure to pick yourself up again.
this girl is doing the same.
despite the emo-ness of this picture, the message is a positive one!

THE FAILED VIOLINIST // by me.
i dont mean violin, its a metaphor for music in general. always wished i could play some musical instrument! i had a toy keyboard once and i loved it and made several annoying noises with it all day but it disappeared while i was growing up, i dont know what happened to it, boooo.
and that thing hanging off her unsevered shoulder! is a balmain jacket! the hottest item this season. i looove the structured shape with those crazy shoulder pads. somewhere i read that balmain “redefined the silhouette”. sounds crazy like everything else associated with fashion! but damn that looks good. feel like committing robbery for the £2,716.87 to buy that. why o why doesn’t money fall from the sky?!?!??
in other more down-to-earth news, uhhh i suddenly am crazy inspired. have ideas for 2 more drawings! wow! welcome back muse! you’ve been fucking sorely missed, ok. also i have several prints lying around the house, i might just give em away instead of having them lie forgotten…somewhere in my room. does anyone want one? they’re all a4 and professionally printed and are glossy and shiny and pretty! you can have it for free but please pay for the postage, thanks :D
